Speaker Bio
Laura Shadix joined the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), Public Buildings Service (PBS), Southeast Sunbelt Region (Region 4) in 1991, immediately after graduating from Western Carolina University with a bachelors in business administration in May 1991. Throughout her impressive 32-year federal service, she has dedicated her career to GSA and PBS Region 4.
Laura began her federal career as a Realty Specialist, responsible for leasing office spaces in Atlanta, GA for executive branch agencies. In 1994, as part of a significant reorganization of PBS in Region 4, Laura transitioned from leasing to working on projects responsible for delivering large scale capital construction projects. This transition served as the catalyst for moving Laura into project management.
In 1998, she was assigned her first capital courthouse project and since that time over the past 25 years, Laura has successfully executed approximately $1billion worth of capital courthouse projects either as a project manager or project executive. Notably, Laura also had the privilege of overseeing and managing the FBI Atlanta Field Office project, a $55 million lease prospectus project that was successfully completed in August 2017.
Throughout her federal career, Laura has been presented with remarkable opportunities. She embarked on an eight-week international work assignment in Tokyo, Japan, collaborating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). Additionally, Laura has provided invaluable program management support for numerous national project management and program management initiatives. Her expertise has been recognized within GSA, leading to invitations to speak at GSA conferences, training courses, and PBS knowledge exchanges.
