Jim Yuengert is a program manager in the Smithsonian Institution’s Facilities office in Washington DC. He is currently responsible for life-cycle management of capital projects in the Smithsonian’s primary collections storage facility in Suitland, Maryland. Jim’s entire professional career has been related to Government engineering. He is a retired Army officer, serving in engineering assignments in Germany, Central America, and South Korea in addition to stateside postings. Following his military career, he worked for five years as an engineer and planner in support of global Army intelligence facilities. Prior to coming to the Smithsonian in 2004, he worked in the State Department’s embassy construction program. He has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and earned a Master’s of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers. Jim resides with his wife Teresa in Dale City, Virginia.
