Professional Bio

Mr. Jimmy Patel started with JHU APL as the Group Supervisor for Facilities Design and Construction on February 19 2018. Responsible for the project development, programming of capital projects, design and construction of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Applied Physics Lab approx. 450 acre campus with a current design and construction workload of $500M. Prior to this assignment, he served as Deputy Chief (2015-2018), Chief of East Campus Branch (2013-2015), Chief of Infrastructure Development Section (2009-2013) and Cost Engineer, (2007-2009) for Real Property Services Field Office, Baltimore District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Prior to joining the Corps of Engineers, Mr. Patel spent 18 months at Maryland State Highway Administration as the Program Manager. Before that Mr. Patel spent 7 years in private industry as a consulting engineer in construction and manufacturing. He served in a wide range of roles including Project Engineer, Office Engineer, Scheduler and Project Manager.
In his current capacity, Mr. Patel is responsible for the project development and programming of capital projects, guidance for architectural designs, the selection of architectural consultants, and leadership of the Design and Construction portfolio and team. Also, responsible to lead initiatives to meet the long-range aesthetic goals of APL.
Jimmy has received Bronze de Fleury Medal, Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, and Baltimore Program Manager of the Year award and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sustainability – Building the future award. Jimmy is a certified Project Management Professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Production Engineering from India and Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He is also Level II certified in Project and Program Management and Level III certified in Facilities Engineering.
