Jim Carroll is Associate Vice Chancellor & University Architect at University of California, Davis. He leads the team at Design & Construction Management (DCM), including Campus Planning and Environmental Stewardship, Integrated Capital and Space Planning, Design Group, Capital Project Management, Engineering Project Management, the Campus Engineer and Inspection Services, Real Estate Services, Contract Management and the Office of Sustainability. Jim has completed higher education projects of virtually every type, in both private practice and public service during a career spanning more than thirty-five years.

Jim returned in 2024 to Auburn University as Vice President for Facilities Management after serving years earlier as University Architect. Between the Auburn stints, he served for six years as the Associate Vice Chancellor and University Architect at the University of California, Davis. The first half of Jim’s career (1986-2011) was devoted to private architectural practice in the Washington, D.C. / Baltimore area.

Jim received both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Maryland and is a licensed architect in seventeen jurisdictions across the U.S. He is a LEED-accredited professional and an active member of COAA, the Association of University Architects, AIA, SCUP, and APPA. Jim is a huge college lacrosse and football fan, a lacrosse referee, and an avid cyclist.
