ESG: What, How, and Why It Matters
Many organizations are now focused on sustainability, employee/worker wellness, risk management, and diversity/equity/inclusion (DEI) – or have been for many years – but perhaps not in the integrated fashion of ESG. Environmental, Social, and (corporate) Governance represents a stakeholder-centric approach to doing business. Companies that adhere to ESG standards agree to conduct themselves ethically in those three areas, and – for private/corporate organizations – investors may use ESG performance to assess a company’s viability.
Jim Ellis, a longtime Owner and current President of CURT (Construction Users Roundtable), will share his thoughts on and experience with ESG ... and challenge you to consider how this initiative fits within your organization.

Jim is a highly respected Corporate Executive with over 45 years of international leadership experience across multiple industrial segments and businesses. He has held senior executive roles in Corporate Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology, Business Development, Merger and Acquisitions, and Capital Project Portfolio/ Development and Execution Management, and has a track record of delivering business, project, and operating results at scale. Currently, Jim is the CEO of Ellisian, where he works with clients to deliver enhanced stakeholder value in capital project delivery with innovative technology solutions.
Previously, Jim was the Corporate Global Vice President of Project Capital Projects at Microsoft, where he led the development and execution strategies to ensure safe, sustainable, and efficient delivery of MSFT’s capital global portfolio. Prior to joining Microsoft, Jim had 40+ years in global senior leadership and executive roles with experience in engineering, operations, manufacturing, technology, Merger and Acquisitions, JV Operations, supply chain, and capital project management. Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stony Brook University, with post-graduate work in Electrical Engineering at New York University and Executive Business Management at Texas A&M University.
Jim is currently the President of the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT), a Premier Owners Organization for Capital Project Excellence, and also serves on several “For and Not For Profit” Boards of Directors, helping organizations enhance stakeholder value through sustained safety excellence and the adoption of new technologies to drive capital project and operating efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.
