Professional Bio

Jake Ortego has worked on every side of the capital project industry including as an Owner, designer, constructor, and consultant. He started in the heavy industrial sector leading EPCM teams to build steel and chemical facilities. He has been an engineering manager for a multidiscipline firm, a construction consulting lead for Deloitte, and owner of his own construction consulting firm. He currently is the President of JA Devco, a development company based in Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, he is a principal at HPM which provides contract risk and program management services.

Jake has roughly 30 years of experience with nearly every aspect of capital improvement processes ... from inception through design, construction, and closeout for projects that range into the billions of dollars. Jake is currently a Principal in HPM’s Audit and Contracts division. He leads the practice in providing consulting to Owner organizations engaged in the planning and execution of capital programs with a focus on risk identification, avoidance, and mitigation.

Prior to this, Jake was the President and founder of JA Cost Engineers and Advisors. Over his career, he has provided project controls, scheduling, project management and engineering management for nearly every sector of Owner, including institutional, public sector, industrial, and commercial.

Jake has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer, Certified Construction Auditor, Certified Cost Professional, and a Certified Cost Engineer. In addition to being a member of COAA, he is also an active member of Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) and is on the board of advisors for the National Association of Construction Auditing (NACA).
