Professional Bio
Joe is a graduate of the University of Florida’s School of Architecture (BD ‘96, MA ‘98) and has chosen Gainesville, Florida as his permanent home. Joe founded Walker Architects, Inc. in 2009 with a mission to make old spaces new, new spaces timeless, and to think beyond the limits of architecture, and that is what we have done. For the past 14 years, Fortune 500 companies, leading public universities, and top construction managers and design-builders have relied on our passionate team of experts to design agile spaces throughout the Southeast. With a team of over twenty and two office locations, Joe oversees the management of all personnel and client services. He participates directly in project planning and design and ensures the satisfaction of schedules and project budgets. Typical project types include renovations to municipal facilities, educational facilities, and community centers, as well as new construction.

Joe is the founder and president of Walker Architects, Inc. and has been practicing architecture for over 20 years. By taking time to truly understand the client’s needs, he demonstrates a commitment to excellence through the pursuit of innovative ideas. Joe has spent his career identifying and leveraging this understanding to deliver a customized solution that is focused on human interaction and wellbeing. He also specializes in architectural acoustics and is a recipient of the Robert Bradford Newman Foundation Award for Acoustics. Notable projects include the Exactech Campus Expansion and the Reitz Union Expansion and Renovation, both in Gainesville (FL).
Mentoring and inspiring emerging designers to know their craft is a passion for Joe. He devotes time to one-on-one coaching of developing architects, focusing their creativity as it applies to the built environment and helping them uncover real-world applications of their designs. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Florida and stays involved with the School of Architecture by serving on the UF School of Architecture Advisory Council.
Joe’s personal pursuit of excellence focuses on skilled piloting of radio-controlled aircraft. He is a past president of the National Society for Remote Control Aerobatics and won the National Championship title in 2018.
