OTI Instructor Bio
Jon is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He leads multi-discipline engineering teams on projects with construction budgets ranging from $50,000 to $750MM. He has had positive and challenging experiences with the various contracting methods (D/B/B, D/B, D/A, multiparty IFOA, CMAR) as both a subconsultant and prime design professional.
Jon’s strengths lean toward strategy and future states. While his professional role is typically that of a design engineer, he focuses on the overall project process and guides teams through stakeholder engagement and decision-making during both the design and construction phases.
Jon’s IPD experience gave him a love of true team collaboration and inspired him to obtain the CM-Lean certification through AGC. His Lean education is based on actual project experience where leading project teams and cluster groups through the application of Lean principles. He finds Lean to be most successful when teams focus on the people involved and work to build trust and awareness of the strengths of each individual. The process and tool application tends to break down when we lose sight of the people.
Jon is a co-founder of Ripple Intent, a non-profit organization working to bring a more human-centered focus in the workplace. Ripple Intent hosts events around the country where participants build awareness of their strengths, gain understanding how they impact the people around them, and learn strategies for intentional practice on their projects and in their companies. As a passionate team builder and mentor, Jon works with teams to develop strategies for a more-inclusive, intentional collaborative connection. He loves to help people grow to be their best selves with the knowledge of how to apply their innate strengths.
When Jon is not practicing his authenticity in the workplace, you can find him riding a bike down a dirt road or hiking with his amazing wife and dog in the Colorado mountains.
