Brain Food: Mechanical Systems: Overview and Innovations

Class discussion will cover the sources of heat gain and heat loss in buildings and basic design considerations for mechanical systems.  The lecturer will present examples of traditional systems, innovative systems, and will show example design considerations in the case study project.  

Learning Objectives

1. Learn the basics of mechanical systems such as Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Building Automation Systems (BAS)
2. Understand the terms "heat gain" and "heat loss" as they relate to the design of building mechanical systems.
3. Through one or more case study examples, see/hear the components of  - and differences between - various mechanical systems and design strategies, both traditional and new/innovative.
4. Gain a fundamental understanding of the role(s) mechanical engineers play in the design and construction process.
