MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
As the Assistant Director of the Design and Construction Division at Penn State's Office of Physical Plant (OPP), John is responsible for contract administration, construction services, renovation services, and numerous organizational initiatives.
Prior to joining OPP in 2006, John worked for over a decade with Turner Construction Company where he was involved with the construction management of projects at Penn State, in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas, and in the Netherlands.
John has an undergraduate and graduate degree in Architectural Engineering (AE) from Penn State and is a registered Professional Engineer. He mentors PSU students and is a guest lecturer for the Penn State AE program.
Recently, John was awarded “The Kenig” award for outstanding service and dedication to COAA. He has been a long-standing volunteer, serving in various aspects for the association. Most notably, John was the the President of the COAA Pennsylvania Chapter from 2010 through 2023, leading that Chapter to recruit new Pennsylvania members, establishing a strong networking foundation for Owners in PA, and offering Owner-focused educational opportunities across PA. Currently, John is an OTI instructor, teaching and providing the Owners point of view in Lean for Owners, one of his industry passions. Additionally, he has chaired the Conference Committee since 2018, guiding a very rigorous committee to plan agendas, content, and the entire structure of each National conference for COAA. With John at the helm, the Conference Committee has planned programs that continuously bring new Owners to the annual conferences.
John resides in State College with his wife, Erika, and has three children - Jack (19), Annika (16), and Elise (13). Can’t forget about JoeJoe, black Lab (9). Personal interests include international travel and World War II history.
